Russia is the largest country in the world which borders Asian and European countries as well as Pacific and Arctic oceans. It is officially known as the Russian Federation. It is famous for its artists, composers and ballet dancers.

Russia showcases a diversity of landforms with tall mountains to marshes, desert to frozen coastlines. It has about 100,000 rivers and many lakes of which Lake Baikal in Siberia is the largest lake in the world. The country is lavished with wide range of natural resources like Natural gas, Petroleum, Coal, Ores, Timber and other minerals.

Russia has the 15th largest economy in the world in terms of nominal GDP and 6th largest by purchasing power parity. Major sectors that account for the income of the country include agriculture, energy, transport, space exploration, water supply and sanitation. Russia is the first country to develop nuclear power and started first nuclear power plant.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, Russia has produced eminent scientists and inventors of which 27 scientists were awarded Nobel Prize. Some of the funding agencies available are Russian Academy of Sciences, The Federal Targeted Programme for Research and Development in Priority Areas of Advancement of the Russian Scientific and Technological Complex for 2014-2020, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, The Russian Science Foundation. Various engineering journals of high importance are available in Russia – Russian engineering research, Russian electrical engineering, Russian engineering research, Russian systems and control archives, Advances in electrical and electronic engineering etc.
