Major sectors that account for the income of the country include agriculture, energy, transport, space exploration, water supply and sanitation. Russia is the first country to develop nuclear power and started first nuclear power plant.
In the 19th and 20th centuries, Russia has produced eminent scientists and inventors of which 27 scientists were awarded Nobel Prize. Some of the funding agencies available are Russian Academy of Sciences, The Federal Targeted Programme for Research and Development in Priority Areas of Advancement of the Russian Scientific and Technological Complex for 2014-2020, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, The Russian Science Foundation.
