Japan is an Asian country which is in the Asia Pacific region and a neighbor of P.R. China, North Korea, South Korea and Russia. The word Japan refers to “sun origin”, therefore, this country is known as "Land of the Rising Sun".

Geographically, the whole country consists of four major islands, they are, Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku. Altogether, the country is having 6,852 islands. The country is having a chain of islands (archipelago) with numerous composite volcanos. Politically, Japan is part of the UN along with other global alliances such as G7, G8, and the G20.

After huge suffering from atomic bombing during World War II, Japan excelled in all arenas of research and development. According to world nominal GDP computation, Japan is having third-largest economy and fourth in the world as per power purchasing parity.

Technological advances enabled Japan to lead the world. The country is pioneer in advanced research in electronics, machinery, biomedical devices, computer science, robotics and medical sciences.

In Physics, Medicine and Chemistry, this island nation produced 21 Nobel laureates so far. Japan has established infrastructure for advanced Food sciences research. The Japanese Society for Food Science and Technology Secretariat monitors the funding and integration of the R & D related to food sciences in the country. 

The Japanese Society for Food racism research in is the leading Institution in food research in Japan. According to some reports, Japan is ranked number 2 preceded by U.S.A in publishing highest number of articles in food sciences. Numerous food sciences journals in Japan are published from Japan with good reputation. Several leading Institution in the country including University of Tokyo, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Kyoto University, Osaka University, RIKEN, Tokyo Institute of Technology and others are spearheading the food research.
