The UK is highly successful and international in research of information technology. The UK has a long tradition of excellence in research, and over the years 114 Nobel Prizes have been awarded to UK-based researchers and they are shown to be highly productive. UK research papers make up 20% of the world’s most highly cited research papers (with over 1,000 citations) yet the UK spends only 4% of the world’s total expenditure on scientific research and development.
