Biography

Dr. Byong Yong Yi joined the Department of Raidaiton Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine as an associate Professor and clinical director of the Physics Division in 2005, after 16-years of service as a Chief Medical Physicist and Professor of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Asan Medical Center and University of Ulsan School of Medicine in Seoul Korea. Dr. Yi earned his doctoral degree in physics at Yonsei University in Seoul Korea. He obtained clinical training as a medical physicist at Hanyang University, 1987-1989. He has been certified by the medical physics boards, the Korean Board of Medical Physics in 1993 and the American Board of Radiology in 2008. He found the Medical Physics Residency Program at University of Maryland Medical System, which has been accreditted by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Program (CAMPEP) and had served as a director, 2012-2016.

1. How many years have you been associated with the current research?
25 Years

2. What is the research topic you are working on now?
Tumor motion tracking radiation therapy,
Real-time image acquisition during treatment

1) New

4. Do you have any research funding (NIH or other national funding) now?
Yes, an NIH Ro1 as a PI and as a co-PI

5. When did you become an editor of OMICS Journal?
2 years ago

6. Where can the journal find the maximum scope in terms of niche?
1) Short return (within 2 weeks)
2) Quick publication

7. What is your greatest career accomplishment?
A method of Dose rate regulated tumor tracking (DRRT) treatment.

8. How does the published scientific content assist the potential researchers?
It is just obvious.
I am afraid that I am not getting the point of the question.
If not other papers, a researcher should investigate every single question before one starts one’s own question.

9. What is the purpose of serving as an editor?
Serves for the society

10. Do you have any patents?
Three US patents.

11. Have you contributed any editorials or papers (any types) to OMICS Journals in the past two years?

May be editorial.

13. How would you define your experience with OMICS Group?
As a reader, it is very good, however as an author, cost prevented me to submit a paper.

14. Your opinion on conducting Editorial Board meetings at related Conferences?
Great idea, if it is at either AAPM or ASTRO annual meetings.

15. Would you recommend OMICS to your friends or colleagues?
Yes, because of answer #16.

16. How do you differentiate Journal of Nuclear Medicine & Radiation Therapy with other journals in the field?
Publication process is shorter than traditional paper-based journals such as the Medical Physics and the RED journal.
