Read Interview session with Radwan Al-Farawati

Born and raised in Taif, Saudi Arabia, Al-Farawati earned a B.S. in Marine Chemistry in 1990 from Faculty of Marine Sciences, King Abdulaziz University.  After graduation, he enrolled as a student at Oceanography Laboratories, Liverpool University, obtaining a PhD degree in oceanography in 1998. Subsequently, he was appointed as lecturer at the Faculty of Marine Sciences, King Abdulaziz University.  In 1999, he was appointed the chairman of marine chemistry department, a post he held up to now.
The research interest of Al-Farawati covers wide areas in seawater. However, his main interest is to study the distribution of nutrients and trace metals in the coastal waters of eastern Red Sea; and speciation of dissolved trace metals in seawater. Recently, He participated in research collaboration international institute, in particular with Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel to study the geochemistry of methane in hot brines and shallow areas of the Red Sea.  Besides that, Al-Farawati participated in many projects to study marine natural products from marine organisms such as corals, algae and sponges.

Research Interest

Distribution of nutrients and trace metals in the coastal waters of eastern Red Sea; Speciation of dissolved trace metals in seawater marine natural products from marine organisms

1. How many years have you been associated with the current research?

For 1 year only.

2. What is the research topic you are working on currently?

I am marine chemist, interested in distribution and speciation of trace metals in seawater; distribution and biogeochemical cycles of nutrients in seawater; marine natural products.

3. What do you think are the attributes for a quality article?

It should be original, innovative and related to the recent development in sciences.

4. Do you have any research funding at present for your work (NIH or other national funding)?

Yes, this is through governmental funds.

5. When did you become an editor of OMICS Journal?

6. Where can the journal find the maximum scope in terms of niche?

I am not sure if I understood the meaning of the question but most researches are looking to publish in ISI journal

7. What is your greatest career accomplishment?

Currently I am associate professor and chairman of department

8. How does the published scientific content assist the potential researchers?

It is of great help. It is the fuel for the new potential researches

9. What is the purpose of serving as an editor?

This is will broad my knowledge in my field; identify more researchers in my field so more scientific collaboration.

10. Do you have any patents filed for your research?

In the past we developed a flow cell for the determination of trace metals in seawater but not registered as patent.

11. Have you contributed any editorials or papers (any type) to OMICS Journals in the past two years?

Yes for one article as an editor but I would prefer to be as editor in the journal of Oceanography as this is my main interest as marine chemist.

12. Do you plan to contribute any editorials or papers to OMICS Journals in the next few years?

13. How would you define your experience with OMICS Group?

It is nice experience and I hope I can contribute to the group and the journal.

14. Your opinion on conducting Editorial Board meetings at related Conferences?

Still I did not attend any meeting yet with the editorial board

15. Would you recommend OMICS to your friends or colleagues?

16. How do you differentiate “Fisheries and Aquaculture Journal” with other journals in the field?

The Journal of Fisheries and Aquaculture is still at the beginning of its way among the other journals in the same field, the journal has to work to be classified as ISI journal in order to encourage scientists to publish in the journal.
