The state of Italy was first organized as a constitutional monarchy under King Victor Emmanuel II in 1861, with Rome joining in 1870. After the defeat of Italy in World War II the modern Italy was formed in 1948. Italy was a founding member of both the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union and it is also a member of G-8. Italy is a Peninsula extending from the southern edge of Europe into the Mediterranean Sea with an area of 301,230 sq km. France, Italy borders are Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia. As per the 2015 census Italy is having population of around 60 795 612.
Italy is the third-largest economy in the euro-zone. The economy in Italy is divided into a developed industrial north and a less-developed, highly subsidized, agricultural south.
