Yalei Zhang

Biography

Professor Zhang received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Tongji University in 1999. He has published to date 175 refereed articles in professional journals and 6 books. Additionally, he has hold more than eighty patents for the waste water treatment techniques. Current scholarly activities professional services include the anaerobic council member of the international water association (IWA) in China, the Lead Guest Editor of Special Issue for Journal of Chemistry; the committee member of Heavy metal pollution prevention professional committee of Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences; the Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Agricultural & Biological Engineering (IJABE) and “China Environmental Science”; the professional memberships of International Water Association (IWA) and American Chemical Society (ACS); the proposal reviewers of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC); the manuscript reviewers of Chemical Engineering Journal, Water Research, Microporous and Mesoporous Materials, Bioresource Technology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, ELECTROPHORESIS, Journal of Molecular Recognition and so on, Director of Chongming ecological island technology promotion center of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, “Urbanization & City Development”editing team member of China Medium and Long-term Science & Technology Planning outline, “Urbanization”expert group member of 11th Five-Year science and technology planning of Ministry of Science & Technology, P.R.Chian, the group leader of experts on “Urbanization and rural construction” of the 12th Five-Year science and technology planning of Ministry of Science & Technology, P.R.China.

Research Interest

Dr Zhang's research has focused on resource recovery of wastewater treatment, environmental fate of contaminates and treatment of water and waste water by advanced environmental functional materials, and integrated equipment development for rural drinking water treatment. Current research areas include occurrence, fate and removal of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in aquatic environments; the optimization of bacteria in the degradation of heavy metal, pharmaceuticals and personal care products in water, waste water and soil; activated sludge models and anaerobic digestion model. He has worked extensively in the area of novel anaerobic technology for wastewater and waste sludge treatment. Environmental problems are now regional and global ones, Dr Zhang’s group currently focus on the policy and technology of the reduction of CO2 emission to adaptation climate change.
