Professor Zhang received his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Tongji University in 1999. He has published to date 175 refereed articles in professional journals and 6 books. Additionally, he has hold more than eighty patents for the waste water treatment techniques. Dr Zhang's research has focused on resource recovery of wastewater treatment, environmental fate of contaminates and treatment of water and waste water by advanced environmental functional materials, and integrated equipment development for rural drinking water treatment. Current research areas include occurrence, fate and removal of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in aquatic environments; the optimization of bacteria in the degradation of heavy metal, pharmaceuticals and personal care products in water, waste water and soil; activated sludge models and anaerobic digestion model. He has worked extensively in the area of novel anaerobic technology for wastewater and waste sludge treatment. Environmental problems are now regional and global ones, Dr Zhang’s group currently focus on the policy and technology of the reduction of CO2 emission to adaptation climate change.
