Description of the country:
Mexico officially called the United Mexican States and is a country located in southern portion of North America. It is a federal republic made up of 31 states and 1 Federal District. Mexico is the fifth largest country in the America and 13th largest nation in the world. Mexico is 11th most populous country in the world and its estimated population is around 120 million. Mexico has been traditionally among the most visited countries in the world. The most notable attractions are the Meso-American ruins, cultural festivals, colonial cities, nature reserves and the beach resorts. The nation's temperate climate and unique culture – a fusion of the European and the Meso-American – make Mexico an attractive destination.
Geography of the country:
Mexico is bordered by the United States to the north and Belize and Guatemala to the southeast. It has coastline along the Pacific Ocean, Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico is located at about 23° N and 102° W in the southern portion of North America. The Tropic of Cancer effectively divides the country into temperate and tropical zones. Mexico is one of the 17 mega diverse countries of the world. With over 200,000 different species and accounts to 10–12% of the world's biodiversity.
Status of economy, research and development:
Mexico has the fifteenth largest nominal GDP and the eleventh largest by purchasing power parity. The Mexican economy is strongly linked to those of its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners, especially the United States. Mexico is a member of the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the G8+5, the G20, the Uniting for Consensus and is an observer of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie since 2014. Mexico produces the most automobiles of any North American nation.
