Drexel University was started in the year 1891 with the establishment of the Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry. Originally a non-degree-granting institution, Drexel began conferring the Bachelor of Science degree in 1914. Since its founding, the institution has remained a privately controlled, nonsectarian, coeducational center of higher learning. Drexel is a comprehensive global research university ranked among the top 100 in the nation. With approximately 26,000 students, Drexel is one of Americas 15 largest private universities.
