TED University

TED University was established by an act of the Parliament dated July 07, 2009 (legislation # 5913). The founder is the Turkish Education Association - Higher Education Foundation (TEDYÜV) which in turn was founded by the Turkish Education Association (TED). TED University (TEDU) is a young, dynamic university, located in the heart of Ankara. It was founded in 2012 by the Turkish Education Association (TED), which has been pioneering the development of education in Turkey since 1928. With an emphasis on liberal arts education, TEDU aims to foster graduates, who are creative, critical-minded, self-confident and well-rounded. The University consists of five faculties: Architecture, Arts and Sciences, Economics and Administrative Sciences; Education and Engineering, and English is the medium of instruction. TEDU is a progressive academic institution offering an integrated approach to higher education and a high quality student-focused educational experience. Through academically rigorous coursework, dynamic teaching, meaningful research, and a myriad of opportunities for students to engage locally and abroad we seek to build a diverse community of socially responsible, globally minded, lifelong learners. “TED University Policy of Academic Freedom” was published by the Senate of TED University in 2012. According to the policy: “Faculty members have a right to carry out research of their own undertaking without any interference, or any suppression, subject to the adequate performance of other academic duties and nationally and internationally recognized professional principles of intellectual rigor, scientific inquiry, and research ethics. They should also have the right to publish and communicate the conclusions of the research of which they are authors or co-authors. Faculty members have a right to undertake professional activities outside of their employment, particularly those that enhance their professional skills or allow for the application of knowledge to the problems of the community, provided such activities do not interfere with their primary commitments to this University and the policies of the institution.” TED University acknowledges teaching, research, and community service as the main components that form the identity of a university. The majority of advancements in the contemporary world are a result of research done at universities; however studies that focus on producing simplistic/typical outputs can only reach weak conclusions which do not have a significant impact. Being aware of the new forms that intellectual contributions might take in this era, we attempt to look at a wider spectrum of research. Rather than considering teaching and research as two separate matters, we support research that addresses social problems, that is interdisciplinary emphasizing the scientific integrity and comprehensiveness, and that can make a difference at the local, national, and global levels. We enable TEDU faculty members to officially allocate one week day to their externally funded projects and encourage them to focus on research and develop collaborative research partnerships with other institutions. We also encourage institutionally funded research activities with TEDU Research Endorsements.
