Biography

Berthold V Koletzko is professor of Pediatrics and head of the Division of Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine at Hauner Children’s Hospital, University of Munich Medical Center, in Munich, Germany. Following work at pediatric departments in South Africa and Tanzania, he qualified in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital, University of Düsseldorf, Germany. He worked as a post-doc in clinical nutrition and metabolism at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto, Canada. Koletzko’s research focuses on metabolism and nutrition in childhood, pregnancy and lactation, metabolic diseases and clinical nutrition. He has co-authored more than 750 publications and received numerous awards and honors. He serves as coordinator of Collaborative Research Programmes, including the Early Nutrition Programming of Adult Health project (www.early-nutrition.org), the Multidisciplinary Early Modification of Obesity Risk Project and the EU Research Network on Malnutrition and Outcome in Hospitalized Children. Scientific leadership roles include editor, Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism; associate editor, Current Opinion Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Care; chair, Committee on Nutrition of the German Society of Pediatrics; chair, Child Health Foundation; scientific advisor, Forum Early Childhood Advancement of the German Federal Family Minister, Managing Council, National Platform on Nutrition and Physical Activity; chair, Scientific Board of the Federal Government Network for Young Families; scientific advisor, Committee on Environment, Health and Consumer Protection of the European Parliament; past-president, German Society for Nutritional Medicine; and past-chair, ESPGHAN Committee on Nutrition.
