Biography

Dr. Lyons completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and her Master of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She received her Ph.D. in Experimental and Cognitive Psychology with a concentration in Gerontology from the University of Kansas in 1993. She completed a fellowship in neurodegenerative disorders in the Parkinson's Disease Center at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

In 1995 she became an Instructor in the Department of Neurology and a Research Assistant Professor from 1998-2000. Dr. Lyons then served as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami Medical Center in Miami, Florida from 2000-2003. Dr. Lyons re-joined the faculty in the Department of Neurology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2003 as a Research Associate Professor and Director of Research for the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorder Center. She became a Research Professor in 2011.

Dr. Lyons' primary areas of research are Parkinson's disease and essential tremor. She has more than 200 articles and presentations in these areas. She is co-editor of the Handbook of Parkinson's disease, 3rd, 4th and 5th editions; Therapy of Parkinson's Disease 3rd Edition; and Handbook of Essential Tremor and Other Tremor Disorders. Dr. Lyons is President of the International Essential Tremor Foundation; Co-Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Neuroscience; and Editor and Chair of the Movement Disorder Journal CME committee.
