Dr. Post is a Professor of Psychiatry at the George Washington University and at Penn State University. He is the Retired Chief of the Biological Psychiatry Branch, NIMH and has volunteered as a member of the National DBSA Scientific Advisory Board since its inception. Dr. Post’s career has focused on understanding and developing new treatments for people with refractory unipolar and bipolar illness, particularly with anticonvulsants and, most recently, repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). He and his group have won numerous research awards. He is on the editorial boards of many journals and has published more than 900 scientific articles. Dr. Post organized the Bipolar Collaborative Network and serves as its head. The network is focused on developing long-term treatments. Dr. Post also edits the free newsletter Bipolar Network News, and is member of the APA Committee on Prevention of Childhood Mental Illness.
