There is currently no effective treatment. Globally, the number of people afflicted with dementia has shown a steady growth over the last decades. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is defined as cognitive decline worse than that of those who have a similar advanced age, but which causes no interference with activities of daily life, such as dementia does. The most commonly used MCI diagnostic criteria were developed by Petersen et al. and confer an increased risk for dementia
