Dr. von Gruenigen is a physician with Summa Health Medical Group (Summa), and is a recognized expert in gynecologic oncology. She serves as Summa Health Systemâs endowed chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Summa Health System â Akron and St. Thomas Campuses and System Medical Director of the Womenâs Health Institute. Also, Dr. von Gruenigen is a professor at Northeastern Ohio Medical University (NEOMED), college of medicine, department of obstetrics and gynecology. Prior to her position at Summa and NEOMED, Dr. von Gruenigen was director of robotic surgery at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and associate professor, department of reproductive biology at the Case School of Medicine. Over her career, she has authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts along with being an editorial board member of Gynecologic Oncology. As a principal investigator, her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), Lance Armstrong Foundation, American Cancer Society, and Summa Health Foundation. When she isnât working with patients or writing manuscripts and grants, Dr. von Gruenigen serves as a board member at Gynecologic Cancer Foundation, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecologyâs Excellence Foundation, and Summa Health Systemâs Accountable Care Organization. You can also find her being recognized for her passion of âquality healthcare for all womenâ by her most notable accomplishments such as: being named one of the âBest Doctors in Americaâ by the Consumerâs Research Council of America, one of âAmericaâs Top Oncologistsâ by Cleveland Magazine, the first recipient of the Richard Ireland Award for Innovation and Excellence in the Business of Womenâs Health, and 2014âs Most Powerful and Influential Woman of Ohio at Ohioâs 7th Annual Diversity and Leadership Conference . Last but not least, she co-created the FREE womenâs resource app â Flourishâ¢ to assist women in all aspects of their health with interactive video dialogues designed to create behavior change and improve self-efficacy.
