Biography

When he was a staff of China Agricultural University in 1985-2003, besides teaching obligations in seed sciences, he did research on seed vigour and aerobic rice breeding. During his PhD program in 2002-2006, he worked on competition between weeds and aerobic rice genotypes, and developed selection index for weed competitiveness. In 2006-2010, he worked at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) as a postdoc on aerobic and rainfed lowland rice breeding, and dissemination of water-saving rice technologies to South Asian countries. In 2010-2016, He was a scientist/breeder  based in IRRI-Cambodia Office, leading a rice breeding project targeting at all rice ecologies in Cambodia, and another project focusing more on seed dissemination of climate resilient rice varieties to smallholder farmers. Before he joined Africa Rice Center as the Genetic Diversity and Improvement Program Leader and Upland Rice Breeder in 2017, He worked for CGCOC Agricultural Development Co. Ltd as a principal scientist leading plant breeding for half a year in Nigeria.
