About the Journal

Mucosal membrane is apart of the innate immune system. The mucous lining on the internal surfaces of oral, ocular, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, and nasopharyngeal cavities provides protection against infections by various pathogenic microbes. Mucosal immunology is the study of immunological function of the mucosal lining as well as the immunological disorders caused due to malfunctioning of the mucosal innate immune system.

Journal of Mucosal Immunology Research is an open access peer reviewed journal that deals with different aspects of mucosal innate immune system. This immunology journal publishes research findings on the mucosal membrane associated microbial flora, elucidation of the mucosal immune response as well as mucosal diseases, vaccines, mucosal immunization, mucosal inflammatory diseases, immune responses at mucosal associated lymphoid tissues, effects of dietary components and probiotics on the function of the mucosal immunity. Manuscripts leading to the development of clinical mucosal immunological drugs are welcome.

Journal of Mucosal Immunology Research uses the Editorial Tracking System for quality in review process. Editorial Tracking is an online manuscript submission, review and tracking systems used by most of the best open access journals. Review processing is performed by the editorial board members of journal or outside experts; at least two independent reviewers approval followed by editor's approval is required for acceptance of any citable manuscript.

Authors are requested to submit manuscripts at http://www.editorialmanager.com/clinicalgroup/ or send as an e-mail attachment to the Editorial Office at [email protected] or [email protected] or [email protected]

Mucosal Immunology

Mucosal Immunology involves the study of immune system response that occurs at the mucosal membrane covering the intestine, urogenital tract and the respiratory system. The mucosal immune system provides primary protection against external pathogens. It is tolerant to the internal non-harmful microbes. Mucosal immunity develops with age with the colonization of intestinal good flora.

Allergy

Allergy is an abnormal sensitivity to a particular substance like pollen, drugs, food or some other environmental factor. It is a local or systemic inflammatory response to an allergen. Allergy and immunology involves the management of disorders related to the immune system.

Innate Immunity

Innate immunity is a non-specific defence mechanism that immediately responds to any antigen or harmful foreign cells in the body. It is an inborn immune system. This immune system comprises of physical barriers like skin, some specific chemicals in blood and some immune system cells that attack foreign cells in the body.

Gastroenterology

It is the branch of medical science that deals with the health of digestive system or gastrointestinal tract and its related disorders. Diseases like irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis C falls under this category of medical science.

Gut Immunology

It is the branch of science which studies the immune system response at the gut mucosa. Gut mucosa provides plays to important function- firstly in digestion and secondly immune homeostasis. Gut mucosa protects the body from potentially harmful microbes.

Macrophage

Macrophages play an important role in immunity and immunological responses. They exhibit a defensive role and have the ability to engulf parasites and microbes by the process of phagocytosis. They also regulate lymphocyte activation and proliferation.

Immunodeficiency

Immunodeficiency is a state in which one’s immune system ability to fight infectious disease is lost. Immunodeficiency can be primary or secondary in nature. Primary immunodeficiency originates in the immune system and is congenital in nature. Most of the primary immunodeficiency can be inherited. Secondary immunodeficiency is also known as acquired immunodeficiency and is triggered by external factors like immunosuppressive agents, environmental toxins etc.

Intraepithelial Lymphocytes (IEL)

Intraepithelial Lymphocytes are one of the major components of gut-associated lymphoid tissue in gastrointestinal tract. In mammalian mucosal linings, like gastrointestinal (GI) tract and reproductive tract, it is present in the epithelial layer of mammalian mucosal linings. When there is an attack of antigen, it releases cytokines and results in killing target cells.

Intestinal Mucosa

Intestinal Mucosa present on the outer surface of the intestine and is the primary site for foreign antigen found in the food, viruses, parasites, intestinal as well as other bacterial pathogens. It has developed acquired and unique innate immunity to fight with these antigens.

Gastro-Esophageal Reflux (GERD)

Gastro-Esophageal Reflux (GERD) is the condition when content of stomach returns back to esophagus. In fact, it is a disorder in digestion that affects the lower part of the Esophageal sphincter. According to the studies, it suggests that this condition occurs due to Hiatal Hernia. Hiatal Hernia is the discomfort happens; when stomach pushes the diaphragm muscle upside.

Dysbiosis is the condition when there is microbial imbalance occurs. This disease can be seen mostly in the gastrointestinal tract, which can be either small intestine’s bacterial or fungal outgrowth (SIBO) & (SIFO). The reason behind bacterial or fungal growth can be due to incompetence normal body flora such as skin, gut or vaginal. According to studies, this disease is sometimes associated with chronic fatigue syndrome, peritoneal disease, colitis or cancer.
