Author Naruhashi K, et al., examined the intestinal transport characteristics of morphine and loperamide and the role of P-gp in their transport process. The studies were performed using Caco-2 cell lines to assess bidirectional permeability and inhibition transport systems. The intestinal absorption was examined by an in situ closedloop method in rats. Results of the study depict that loperamideexhibits secretory transport across rat intestinal tissue and Caco-2 cells, and P-gp substrates cyclosporine A and rhodamine 123 acts as an inhibitor of this transport .
