Mexico is the eleventh most populous country having population of over 120 million. It is also the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world and the second most populous country in Latin America.It is a federal republic located in North America, bordered to the north by the United States; to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; to the southeast by Guatemala, Belize and the Caribbean Sea; and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico is the fifth largest country in the Americas by total area covering almost two million square kilometres and the 13th largest independent nation in the world.
Mexico is bordered by the United States to the north and Belize and Guatemala to the southeast. Baja California in the west is an 800-mile (1,287-km) peninsula that forms the Gulf of California. To the east are the Gulf of Mexico and the Bay of Campeche, which is formed by Mexico's other peninsula, the Yucatán. The center of Mexico is a great, high plateau, open to the north, with mountain chains on the east and west and with ocean-front lowlands beyond.
Mexico has the 15th largest nominal GDP and the 11th largest by purchasing power parity.] The World Bank reported in 2009 that the country's Gross National Income in market exchange rates was the second highest in Latin America, after Brazil. Mexico is now firmly established as an upper middle-income country. After the slowdown of 2001 the country has recovered and has grown 4.2, 3.0 and 4.8 percent in 2004, 2005 and 2006, even though it is considered to be well below Mexico's potential growth.
The country includes leading organisations like Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD), hosted by the UCL’s Institute for Global Health, University of New Mexico and National Institute of Medical Science and Nutrition Salvador Zubiran (INCMNSZ). Carlos A. Aguilar Salinas is the Deputy Head of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at INCMNSZ. According to SCImago Journal and Country ranking, Mexico stands in the 29th place worldwide in the publication of Orthopedic research works in various Orthopedic Journals. with the aim of contributing further to the development of orthopedics and musculoskeletal medicine through research, maintenance of health, prevention of diseases, The Mexican Orthopedic Association was founded.
