Abstract

Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is a therapeutic modality for neurological impairments, enhancing motor function, reducing spasticity, and aiding rehabilitation. Advancements include wireless systems and integration with robotics. FES improves gait, manages spasticity, and supports at-home therapy. It also strengthens muscles post-stroke, restores hand function, and prevents complications. Emerging closed-loop systems and integration with brain-computer interfaces show promise for advanced assistive devices and improved patient outcomes.
