University of Rome

University of Rome Tor Vergata is a public research university which is situated in Rome, Italy. Giuseppe Novelli, a professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery is the current president of the University.

It was started in 1981 after the division of the University of Rome La Sapienza. Faculty strength of the University is 1571 and 1066 other employees. It has got a huge strength of 44,000 students. Many Professors of the University are important members of the Italian cultural and political environment.

The university has been divided into six schools: Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Sciences. Altogether there are 19 departments in total which offers 31 PhD programmes and 120 Masters programmes.114 undergraduate degree programs is also offered by the university (three-year degree, single-cycle), 9 of which the medium of instruction is in English.

Research is carried out in 27 departmental and inter-departmental research centers. Italian Space Agency’s new main headquarters was inaugurated in Tor Vergata on July 25, 2012. Other important institutions include the Tor Vergata research establishment of National Research Council and the National Institute for Astrophysics.
