Biography

Robert Kostka (born November 29, 1935 in Graz) is an Austrian mountaineer, Geo and cartographer and university teachers in Graz. He is known primarily for his Gebirgskartografie in some remote high mountains of Asia and America. He has published on these activities and results of several books. One of the first of these works, the most developed in co-authorship, was a research and book on the Afghan Wakhan, the hitherto almost unexplored mountain valley of Pamir in the border triangle for the former Soviet Union and the PRC [1]. Since this multi-year, interdisciplinary project of about 10 scientists in the 1970s are concerned Kostka next satellite remote sensing, surveying and cartography mountain with the history and anthropology of each region visited. Among them are also mountains in the Middle East, in Africa and in particular the South American Andes. Kostka teaches at Graz University of Technology [2], inter alia, History of Remote Sensing.
