Biography

Walter J Lukiw BS, MS, PhD currently works part-time at the Neurosciences Center, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans. Walter does research in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Neurology, Ophthalmology and Molecular Genetics. Their current project is inflammatory signaling in Alzheimer's disease (AD), age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and human prion disease (PrD); they have researched the abundance, complexity and speciation of all types of RNA (mostly microRNA and messenger RNA) in the human brain in health and disease, the neurotoxicology of mercury and aluminum, and microbiome-signaling-to the human brain and CNS for about 40 years

Alterations in micro RNA-messenger RNA (miRNA-mRNA) Coupled Signaling Networks in Sporadic Alzheimer's Disease (AD) Hippocampal CA1

RNA sequencing, DNA microfluidic array, LED-Northern, Western immunoassay and bioinformatics analysis have uncovered a small family of up-regulated human brain enriched microRNAs (miRNAs) and down-regulated messenger RNAs (mRNAs) in short post-mortem interval (PMI) sporadic Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brain. At the mRNA level, a large majority o... Read More»
