Biography

Daniel Pleissner obtained a BSc. in Molecular Biotechnology (2005, University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Goerlitz, Germany) a MEng. in Environmental Engineering (2009, International Graduate School Zittau, Germany) and a PhD in Biology (2012, University of Southern Denmark). From 2012 to 2014 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the City University of Hong Kong, School of Energy and Environment where he worked on utilization of food waste as nutrient source in cultivation of heterotrophic microalgae. From 2014 he was employed as Postdoctoral Fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy Potsdam (Germany) where he focused his activities on the utilization of agricultural residues for the production of value added compounds, such as lactic acid. Since 1st of June 2016 Daniel Pleissner is an Assistant Professor for Sustainable Chemistry with focus on resource efficiency at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg. His areas of interest include fermentation, in particular microalgae, utilization of microalgal biomass and waste streams, marine biology and production of marine biomass, sustainable chemistry and efficiency.
