I have a broad background in cardiovascular studies, with specific expertise in stem cell, microvesicle, microRNA and angiogenesis research. I have laid the groundwork for the proposed research by providing the evidence that microvesicles from adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs), particularly from endothelial differentiation medium (EDM)-preconditioned ASCs, promote angiogenesis in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo (Matrigel plug assay). To further examine the potential effects of these proangiogenic microvesicles as a therapeutic approach for the ischemic heart, my laboratory recently developed techniques to establish a mouse myocardial infarction model and perform echocardiography. Besides focusing on my project, I have collaborated with my colleagues by providing expertise in angiogenesis, which led to an article recently accepted for publication.
