Biography

Dr. Oscar Garcia-Algar is a paediatrician, at the moment (1) Coordinator of Emergency Section of the Paediatrics Unit, Hospital del Mar, Barcelona, Spain; (2) Director of the Grup de Recerca Infància i Entorn (GRIE), Institut Hospital del Mar d’Investigacions Mèdiques (IMIM), Barcelona, Spain, and (3) Full Professor of Paediatrics, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Barcelona, Spain. He published more than 200 indexed papers, with more than 1,800 citations. His main lines of research refers to prenatal and postnatal exposure to substances of abuse and its study in alternative biological matrices. He obtained financial resources for research in more than 30 competitive calls and received several academic and research prices during his professional life.

Research Interest

Prevalence of exposure and consumption studies (in pregnant women, neonates and children) especially the study of biomarkers in unconventional biological matrices.
Follow-up of children exposed to substance abuse, especially prenatal exposure to alcohol.
Biomarkers of damage in prenatally-exposed children.
Cell cultures and animals models of the deleterious effects of prenatal exposure to alcohol.
