Biography

Dr. Malhotra received her PhD from Postgraduate Institute of Medical education and research, India in 2008. Currently, She is a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

Her research work mainly focuses on the regulation of intestinal cholesterol and bile acid absorption and their role in the maintenance of cholesterol homeostasis with special emphasis on understanding the regulation of Niemann-Pick Type C1 Like 1 (NPC1L1) -a cholesterol transporter and FGF19 (Fibroblast growth Factor)-a regulator of bile acid synthesis.

Research Interest

Regulation of cholesterol and bile acid synthesis, epigenetic modification, gut-liver axis and liver fibrosis.
