Biography

Prof. Fernanda Margarido, PhD in Metallurgical Engineering is Associate Professor with Tenure at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Portugal. She is researcher at the Centre for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research, IN+ and Head of the Waste Processing and Management Laboratory. She has been Principal Investigator by IST of several Projects funded by the European Union in the areas of pollution control and recovery of materials from end-of-life products. Currently she has a similar role in an ERASMUS+ Project (Capacity Building and Environmental Management) with Norway, Holand, India, Nepal and Uganda. She is co-editor of 3 books, author of several chapters of books as well as 70 manuscripts published in international journals and conferences. Her research interests are the characterization of waste and end-of-life products, the hydrometallurgical processing for recovery its constituent materials, and the life cycle assessment of processes and products.
