Gulnihal Ozbay
Editor-in-Chief
Gulnihal Ozbay, Ph.D
Professor
Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources
Delaware State University, USA
Biography

Dr. Ozbay’s is a Research Associate Professor in Delaware State University, did her Ph.D on Fisheries and Aquaculture (Concentration: WaterQuality & Aquaculture) Her research and outreach programs are established to help preserve natural resources and health of Delaware’s Bays and monitor predicted changes that could be helpful to the state agencies in decision making and management. Food Safety Laboratory she established by the funding provided by USDA-FSIS Program has enabled Dr. Ozbay to conduct collaborative projects with the USDA ARS Laboratories and other research institutions in catfish inspection from retail establishments and allow faculty and students to involve comprehensive seafood quality monitoring and hands-on training efforts, this program is expected to continue and enhance program capacity in the college. GIS Laboratory will be established along with the workshops and classes regarding integration of GIS & Remote Sensing for the gobal climate change issues

Research Interest

Dr. Ozbay’s research and outreach education programs focus on the habitat restoration, she also has research programs to identify environmental stresses and relationships between water quality and naturally occurring bacteria that could be potentially harmful to either aquatic species or humans once consumed via investigation of shellfish tissues using both microbiological and genetic methods. In addition, she is looking at cellular response and population structures of several harmful algal species in Delaware waters as results of changes in temperature, CO2, nutrients, and other changes associated with climate change phenomena.  Her research and outreach programs are established to help preserve natural resources and health of Delaware’s Bays and monitor predicted changes that could be helpful to the state agencies in decision making and management. Along with ecological services (i.e. water filtration, feeding and hiding ground for juveniles fishes, forage habitat) shellfish stabilize our coasts and increase bio-diversity. As her outreach goals, she plans to offer drinking water quality clinic and public seminar to discuss potential issues with having private wells and what treatment to use and expand community outreach oyster gardening program for habitat restoration.
