Abstract
Objective: The relationship of the selenium content in blood and nail of rural old people and the APOE genotype, as well as their age was investigated with the difference comparison and correlation analysis. Method: Five hundred subjects were studied in the low selenium areas of Sinchuan province (Jiange city) and the appropriate selenium area (Qionglai city). The age of the old people with different genotype in the low selenium area and the appropriate selenium area was compared with the variance analysis method. Following the principle of voluntary participation, the blood and nail samples was collected from fifty subjects in two areas. After that, selenium content of these samples were determined to investigate the relationship of APOE genotype, selenium content and age in low selenium areas and appropriate selenium area. The correlation coefficient method was used for data analysis. Result: The significant difference was found for the age between the old people with e 2/2 geno and those of having not this gene in 1000 subjects (P < 0.05). But the same results were not seen in, other genes (2/3, e 2/4, e 3/3, e 3/4, e 4/4). There was a correlation between genotype, age and the selenium contents of nail and blood in 50 subjects. Furthermore, there was a strong correlation between the blood selenium and the age of rural old people (P= 0.198, at 0.05 level (bilateral)). And the results showed that the selenium contents in blood of subjects with gene e2 were higher those of having not genotypes e2. Li Yong currently working as Technologist in Sichuan center for disease control and prevention. Li Yong received her B.S from the Sichuan University, Chengdu, china in 1998-2003 and M.S in nutrition and food hygiene from Sichuan University, Chengdu, China. She started her career in 2006-2007 as a Visiting scholar of Western light, National institute of occupational health and poison control, Beijing, China and from 2007-present she working as a Technologist-in-charge, assistant of Ping Li, Sichuan Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Chengdu, China. Her Research field is The relationship between trace elements and human health.
