Dr. Shigetaka Shimodaira, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor at the Shinshu University Hospital, the Director of the Advanced Center for Cell Therapy at the Shinshu University Hospital, and a Professor at the Matsumoto Dental University Hospital. He graduated in 1990 from the Shinshu University School of Medicine in Matsumoto, Nagano, Japan and joined the department of internal medicine, specializing in hematology and oncology at the Shinshu University Hospital. He studied at the graduate school of medicine at Shinshu University and earned his Ph.D. degree for his thesis entitled: “The detection of clonal proliferation in granular lymphocyte-proliferative disorders of natural killer cell lineage” from Shinshu University in 1997. Dr. Shimodaira studied the pathogenesis of hepatitis C virus infection at the department of molecular microbiology and immunology in the Health Science Campus of the University of Southern California, CA, from 1999 to 2001. As a specialist certified by the Japan Society of Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy, Dr. Shimodaira has conducted educational and clinical activities to promote the uses of transfusion and regenerative medicine at the Shinshu University Hospital since 2002. Following this, he took office as the Vice Director of the Cell Processing Center at Shinshu University Hospital in 2007 and became an Associate Professor in 2008. Dr. Shimodaira was promoted to the post of chief medical doctor in the Division of Molecular Cell Therapy at Shinshu University Hospital in 2009, and received the award for “Cell automatic culture system” from the Robotics Society of Japan in 2010. He became the director of Advanced Center for Cell Therapy, Shinshu University Hospital since 2011, and was appointed professor of Matsumoto Dental University in 2012. He became a professor at the Advanced Center for Cell Therapy, Shinshu University Hospital in 2013 and was named one of the best doctors in Japan for the year 2014-2015 by Best Doctors, a regenerative medicine specialist authorized by the Japanese Society of Regenerative Medicine in 2015. He was selected as one of the Who’s Who in the World 2016 (33rd Edition). Dr. Shimodaira has made developments in dendritic cell-based cancer immunotherapy and the manufacturing process for dendritic cell vaccines. He is serving as an editorial member of several reputed journals like International Journal of Hematology Research, Clinical & Medical Case Reports, and Austin Journal of Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics & expert Reviewers for journals like Cyotherapy.
