Biography

My research interests are in machine learning and computational biology. I use machine learning techniques to solve problems in biology, especially immunology and cell biology. I employ ordinary differential equation (ODE) models and spatially explicit agent based models (ABMs) to understand kinetics of West Nile Virus (WNV). I use Hierarchical Bayesian models and non-linear mixed effects models to simulate WNV infection in different species. I also use hierarchical models and ODEs to simulate protein interactions within cells. I work very closely with experimentalists and am currently working in a wet lab. I also have experience working in the financial services sector with Fortune 500 clients. I write well-documented and rigorously tested code. I have been ranked within the top 500 worldwide on MATLAB Central based on the number of times my open-source code has been downloaded. I am very passionate about making computational and statistical tools accessible to biologists. To this end, I build accessible and intuitive graphical user interfaces that allow biologists to interact with complex mathematical models. I also conduct mini-lectures that demystify computational techniques for biologists.
