Abstract

Clinical metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) is transforming infectious disease diagnostics by providing rapid, unbiased pathogen detection and antimicrobial resistance prediction. This advanced tool identifies known and novel threats, critical for managing emerging infections, pediatric cases, central nervous system infections, and immunocompromised patients where traditional methods often fall short. While offering immense potential for precision medicine and improving treatment outcomes, mNGS faces challenges in data interpretation, standardization, and cost. Overcoming these hurdles is crucial for its broader clinical integration and realizing its full impact on global health.
