Dr. Jarrell is a recognized multi-discipline engineering expert, licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer and biomedical research doctor in basic science, materials and medical devices. He has three degrees from Brown University, a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Materials Science and Engineering and a Doctorate in Biology, Medical Science and Engineering and has received Medical training in histology, physiology, microbiology and pathology. He has a faculty appointment in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He has several US and foreign patents pending covering bioactive delivery polymers and metal oxide hybrid biomaterials. He is the author of multiple peer reviewed publications and abstracts on bioactive thin film coatings and a guide book for medical device designers. Collaborative work has been published with investigators at Brown University Department of Molecular Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biotechnology, and the Division of Engineering, Rhode Island Hospitals Orthopedic Research Laboratories and the VA Center for Restorative and Regenerative Medicine. As a researcher at Brown University, he developed active dermal contacting systems using polymers and hybrid materials and methods for synthesizing and screening active, eluting films. His company has been awarded contracts by the Department of Veterans Affairs, Rhode Island Hospital and the Extremity War Trauma Research Foundation (Airlift Research Foundation) investigating and designing tissue contacting biomaterials, fixation devices, orthopaedic implants and surgical models.
