Biography
Dr. Marcos Andre Vannier-Santos graduated in Biological Sciences (BA Genetics) and PhD in Sciences at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Dr. Marcos has experience in the area of Parasitology and ultrastructural approaches, with an emphasis on Protozoology, employing electron microscopy and antiparasitic chemotherapy. Currently he is a senior researcher in Public Health at Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ), CNPq research fellow, head of the Parasite Biology Laboratory. Former vice-president of the Brazilian Society for Microscopy and Microanalysis (SBMM), having chaired the first event of this organization in the North, Northeast and Midwest Brazil: the "Thematic Symposium on Pathogens, Medicinal Plants and Advanced Techniques in Microscopy". Organizes the Advanced Course on Cell Biology of Pathogens (Brazilian-Argentine Center of Biotechnology). He also coordinates the health promotion project "Science on the Road: education and citizenship". He is an Associate Professor of Parasitology and General Secretary of the Brazilian Society for Parasitology.
Research Interest
