India seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country (with over 1.2 billion people), and the most populous democracy in the world. India officially known as Republic of India and formally known as Bharat. India is bounded by Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west, China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east.

Geogriphically, India comprises bulk to Indian subcontinent which is lying near to Indian tectonic plate. India's coastline measures 7,517 kilometres in length, of this distance, 5,423 kilometres belong to peninsular India and 2,094 kilometres to the Andaman, Nicobar, and Lakshadweep island chains. Major Himalayan-origin rivers that substantially flow through India include the Ganges and the Brahmaputra, both of which drain into the Bay of Bengal.

In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives. India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with the Thailand and Indonesia. India became one of the fastest-growing major economies. it is considered a newly industrialised country. India continues to face the challenges of poverty, corruption, malnutrition and inadequate public healthcare.

There are totally 12 Noble Laureates in India in the fields of Medicine, Chemistry, Literature. Sir Ronald Ross awarded by the Noble prize for the discovery of malaria and Har Gobind Khorana got noble prize for the discovery of RNA. Recently Oncology field is mainly growing importance. Indian Journals of Cancer will include research works related to Cancer.
