Abstract
Since 2012 with the publication of “Innovating for Sustainable Growth: A bioeconomy for Europe”, the European Union has identified in the bioeconomy as the main EU strategy to answer at future society challenges. Hence, the bioeconomy had become the core of scientific and politics debates and it represents the main EU research priorities. In spite of such large emphasis, the transition towards bioeconomy remains a vague concept with unclear boundaries and delimitations. After have revised the concept of bioeconomy the paper aims to assess the tendency and the main field of EU agricultural research on bioeconomy. By applying textual clustering techniques at EU project objectives funded since 1996 within the Framework programs (PF4; PF5; PF6 and FP7), we identify the tendency of supporting bioeconomy by EU research over time across the EU as a whole and in each member’s state. Through grouping techniques, the paper also aims at disentangling the research areas in field of bioeconomy by observing the evolution of the different research areas over time and the relevance across each member states.Biography
