Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the main causes of disability. For wheelchair-dependent and non-ambulatory individuals, the majority of circumstances lead to
lifelong disability and movement limits. Perpetual immobility may increase the risk of developing subsequent issues. Currently, spinal cord decompression and
rapid vertebral column stabilization are required for the treatment of SCI, which is then followed by rigorous physical therapy. After this, there aren't many therapies
that provide significant neurological and functional improvement. Acupuncture is a therapeutic discipline of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that involves
stimulating certain locations with tiny needles or, rarely, lasers, followed by related manual or electrical procedures. The practice of stimulation to the scalp was
limited, by considering different schools of scalp acupuncture for locating motor areas in the scalp, we employed scalp stimulation in an incomplete spinal cord
injury patient as shown in Figure 1. With inserting needles bilaterally into the scalp at 150 - 20° to the subaponeurotic space of the scalp, stimulations with twirling
movements for 30 minutes at a minimum speed of 150 revolutions per minute for 4 minutes in every ten minutes of 5 sessions in a week for 21 days.
On day 1 he got his complete knee range of motion with power, on the 21st day with improvement in all functional outcomes and improvement in temperature
sensation is may be because the motor area classified by numerous schools of practice is equivalent to the structure of the precentral gyrus of the cerebral cortex
activation by the influence of trigeminal nerves which is innervated to the scalp. So, complementing scalp acupuncture with physical therapy helps in early motor
and sensory recovery in patients with SCI.
