Panjab University

Panjab University, established in 1882, is one of the oldest universities of India. It was first located in Lahore, which is now in Pakistan. Panjab university was ranked number 1 by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. It is a state-run university located in Chandigarh. It is one of the hub for high-end research facilities in India. Energy Research center, LNC Project and facilities for stem-cell research and drug development are some of the research centers housed by the university. Some of the notabnle alumni of the university are Hargobind Khurana, Nobel Laureate in Biotechnology, Manmohan Singh former Prime Minister of India, Shaker Dayal Sharma former President of India, Bhupinder Sigh Hooda and Sunil Bharti Mittal. It holds an eminent position in the research contribution among countries. Some of the significant research contributions from the university are improved cook-stove technology, biomethanation of agricultural/ forest wastes/ solar detoxification and soalr thermal energy storage. Upto 12 reseach projects are have been undertaken by the university from the time of its establishment.
