Dr. Rao has over 30 years' research experience in the areas of experimental and theoretical modal analysis, rotordynamics, biomechanics, vibration and noise control. He was named Vice Director/Institute of vibration, shock and noise research of SJTU in 1998, and Vice Director/Office of Discipline Development of SJTU in 2002. He had been worked as a Senior Visiting Scholar in Department of Mechanical Engineering/State University of New York, Binghamton Branch, USA in 1996, engaged in adaptive vibration absorber research, and as a Senior Visiting Scholar in 1997 and Guest Professor in 2000 in Department of Science and Mechanical Engineering/Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, engaged respectively in research of smart interior noise control of enclosure cavity and protect of human leg in crash. He has published over 150 technical articles in his interest field. In recent 10 years Dr. Rao has been principal investigator on over 50 research contracts for industry and government and has supervised over 50 graduate students.
