Biography

I am the Director of the Dorothy P. and Richard P. Simmons Center for
Interstitial Lung Disease and Visiting Associate Professor of Medicine at the
University of Pittsburgh in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical
Care Medicine. I am a physician specializing in the care of patients with
interstitial lung disease. My laboratory conducts basic science studies on the
pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. In particular, I am funded by the National
Institutes of Health to study how fibroblast biology is affected by dysregulated
expression of the transcription factor, twist1. I am also the co-Principal
Investigator on a clinical trial to test depletion of B-cells with rituximab for
patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Of particular interest to the
Journal of Cytokine Biology, my studies have included work on cytokine
receptor-like factor I (CRLF1), a member of the IL-6 family, chemokine (C-X-C
motif) Ligand 12, and BLyS (Tumor Necrosis Factor (Ligand) Superfamily,
Member 13b, TNFS13B).
