Biography
Dr. T. Sumathi has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Biochemistry, University of Madras, Taramani Campus since 2005. She has obtained her Ph.D degree from Biochemistry Department, Guindy Campus University of Madras during 2002. She has 15 years of teaching and research experience. Her thrust area of research includes neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and Huntington’s disease and metals like Aluminium, Methylmercury, polychlorinated biphenyl, etc. induced neurotoxicity. She has been doing research on to this “Neurobiology area” for the past 15 years. She is currently guiding 7 research scholars and 4 research scholars have been awarded Ph.D degree. She has got 45 international research publications to her credit. She has been an external examiner for PG – Biochemistry board for Pondicherry University and M.B.B.S practical examiner in Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). She has served as a doctoral committee member for Bharathiyar University, AnnamalaiUniversity and Bharathidasan University. She has received “Best Women Scientist Award” by a foundation for educational excellence during the year 2016. She has also conferred upon the award of “Distinguished Scientist”for the contribution and achievement in the field of Neurodegenerative diseases by International foundation, Centre for Advanced Research and Design.She has obtained major research project from UGC and BPR&D. She is a life member in ISAR, ISCA, ZSI, IAES, IABS and NJLS. She has presented several research papers in various National and International conferences. She has been a reviewer and editorial board member for many international journals like International Journal of brain disorder therapy, Current updates in gerontology, Neurochemistry International, Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology, British Journal of Pharmaceutical Research, etc.
