|The use of coffee by the pregnant woman, as well as part of the children and adolescence daily diet, has been a matter of controversy and greatly avoided is some cultures, especially in the USA. Mainly due to the fact that coffee is the major source of caffeine in the American diet. This presentation aims to make a brief review of the current knowledge on coffee effects during the reproductive and developmental period of human life. The review is divided according with the different developmental life stages in humans: Coffee Effects during pregnancy and in the newborn Coffee Effects during early childhood and infancy Coffee Effects in Children and adolescence.|
Roseane Maria Maia Santos has completed her PhD in 2005 from State University of New York at Buffalo. She moved to USA in 1999 after 16 years of successful career as pharmacist in the areas of academia, industry and government in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She wrote books in collaboration with Brazilian experts on her research field of Coffee and Health benefits. She has served as consultant for coffee companies and peer reviewer for various journals of repute. Presently, she is focused in the validation of biomarkers for coffee consumption and development of coffee products as nutraceuticals.
