Peter Bosselmann works nationally and internationally on urban design and planning projects. He established urban simulation laboratories in Milan New York City and in Tokyo modeled after the Berkeley laboratory that has been under his direction since 1983. His publications appeared in a wide range of academic and professional journals. His new book Urban Transformation Understanding City Design and Form by Island Press came out in November of 2008. Prof Ries is a marine geologist in the Department of Marine Sciences at UNC Chapel Hill. His research program investigates a wide range of subjects in the Marine Sciences including global climate change, paleoceanography, paleobiology carbonate sedimentology, sulfur isotope, geochemistry, biomineralization and carbon sequestration. The common thread throughout Prof Ries work is oceanic change which he investigates over broad temporal scales By combining field studies with complementary laboratory experiments. Prof Ries is able to directly explore the biogeochemical processes that have changed the state of our oceans throughout the geologic past as well as those that will drive critical changes in the immediate future.

Renji received the M.Tech Degree in Water Resources Development and Management from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKgp) and the Ph.D. Degree in Civil engineering from the University of Bristol. His Ph.D. research investigated data modelling Issues in hydroinformatics giving more emphasis to modelling of hydrological processes. Renji now working as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Yorkshire Forward – Centre for Low Carbon Futures project in conjunction with Leeds, Sheffield and York Universities. The aim of his work is regional climatic and hydrological modelling for Yorkshire and Humberside region based on projected climate change scenarios.

Frith Completed a B.Sc(Hons) in Geography at Aberystwyth University, UK in 1981 and subsequently a Ph.D. at Coventry Polytechnic in 1984 which assessed the raised shoreline and patterns of ice sheet decay in the inner Moray Firth, Scotland. Following a short term appointment at the University of Keele appointed to a lectureship at West London Institute in 1988. Subsequently became Head of Geography & Earth Sciences at Brunel University prior to the current appointment as Head of the School of Environment & Technology at the University of Brighton, UK. Research has concentrated on coastal geomorphology and neotectonics in particular the utilisation of coastal features to determine patterns and rates of tectonic and glacio-isostatic movements. He has been the Secretary of the INQUA Shorelines Commission (1999-2003) and Coastal & Marine Processes Commission (2007-2011).

Diakoumi is working as lecturer in the Civil Engineering Division at University of Brighton. She has been the course leader for Level 4 BEng/MEng Civil Engineering and BEng Civil with Environmental Engineering programmes since 2010. Prior to joining the University of Brighton, she worked as a civil engineering consultant on the design of major UK underground projects for the consultancy group Mott MacDonald. She also worked as a part-time tutor in the School of Civil Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton during the period 2003-2006. Janet Hooke is Professor of Physical Geography in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Liverpool, UK. She obtained her BSc from Bristol University and her PhD from Exeter University. She is a fluvial geomorphologist specialising in research on river meanders and river channel changes, particularly the spatial and temporal dynamics of morphological changes, the impact of hydrological variations and the analysis of sediment processes and fluxes. As well as publishing > 80 research papers, books and book chapters, she has advised on environmental management of rivers, catchments and coasts, especially in relation to erosion and flooding. She has managed over 30 research projects, including an EU project on combating land degradation. She works in both semi-arid and humid fluvial systems. She was awarded the 2009 Busk Medal by the Royal Geographical Society, UK, for her field research into river systems and their conservation and contribution to environmental management. She is a past Chair of the British Society for Geomorphology.

Paul Trawick is a socio-cultural anthropologist, trained at the University of Texas at Austin (M. A.) and Yale University (PhD), who specializes in the study of community-based management systems of natural resource management and has a particular interest in the comparative study of irrigation systems. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Anthropology at Cranfield University in the UK, having held previous appointments as an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Kentucky and as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Johns Hopkins University. He has also worked periodically as a consultant on water reform for the World Bank and the InterAmerican Development Bank in Washington DC. During the early part of his career his fieldwork was largely confined to the Peruvian Andes, but he has since go on to do research on irrigation systems in Spain and other parts of the world.

Dr. Rich Schultz is an Associate Professor of Geography and Geosciences at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois, and holds a Ph.D. in environmental geochemistry from the University of Cincinnati (1991), an M.S. in geology from the Wichita State University (1988) and a B.S. in geology from Illinois State University (1985). He is in his eighth year as a full-time faculty member at Elmhurst College and serves as the Coordinator of the Elmhurst College Online GIS Certificate Program. Dr. Schultz is the sole or senior author of more than fifty publications, book chapters, and abstracts. Dr. Rachlin who received his PhD from NYU in 1967 has been at Lehman College for some 45 years has published over 60 Peer reviewed papers and has been active in research concerning the Waterways around New York City for all that time. As an aquatic ecologist, and evolutionary biologist he has been funded in this research by PSC-CUNY Research Awards, and such agencies as EPA, NIH, and for the last five years by grants & contracts from NOAA/WCS. Dr. Zhongqi (Joshua) Cheng is a tenured faculty and an environmental geochemist at Brooklyn College of The City University of New York. His current research focus is on urban environmental issues. He has been trying to use his expertise in analytical geochemistry to tackle complex environmental problems.  Trained as a “traditional geologist” with a PhD in isotope geology from The Ohio State University, Cheng spent five years at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory researching arsenic with an inter-disciplinary team. At Brooklyn College, he has developed an urban garden soil testing program and research projects on the soil and water quality in New York City. He is also the Director of the Environmental Sciences Analytical Center at Brooklyn College.

Dr. Manca is also an Assistant Professor in the Geography and Geospatial Department at Mason, where she is an Associate Coordinator of the Earth System Science M.S. program. She is also a member of the Recruitment Committee. She is the US lead institution coordinator of project Atlantis, a transatlantic dual masters degree program involving a consortium of 3 universities: the University of Cagliari, College of Birckbek, University of London, and George Mason University. She has 13 years of broad professional experience in the field of Geographic Information Science (GISci). She has been a former Inspector of Italian National Priority Layers and of Regional Geodatabases. She has operated as an Information Technology (IT) director for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at the national level. Dr. Manca has extensive experience on an international level, through her collaborations with the National Center for Geographic Information & Analysis (NCGIA) at the University of California, Santa Barbara, at the Center for Advanced Studies, Research and Development in Sardinia (CRS4), and at the Italian National Research Center (CNR). She was also the primary Project Developer for the Sardinian Environmental Historical Geopark and has acted as a geoinformation consultant for multiple universities and the government. Chunhua Zhang is an assistant professor at East Tennessee State University. He has extensive experience in teaching and research in the domain of GIScience. His general focus is in the application of geospatial techniques to investigate critical environmental problems and to develop new methods for remote sensing applications. Dr. Marzie Jafari is a professor of urban and regional geography and Dean of the School of Continuing and Professional at Lehman College, the City University of New York. She joined Lehman in 2001 and currently teaches Geography of the Middle East. A graduate of Hunter College, she holds an undergraduate degree in Computer Science as well as a master′s from Hunter in geography, with a specialty in Geographic Information Systems.
