Anit Somech

Biography

Prof. Anit Somech is an organizational psychologist, and the Head of Educational Leadership & Policy Department, Faculty of Education, University of Haifa, Israel. Anit Somech received her first degree in Psychology and Statistics (1983), and a M.A in Educational -Clinical Psychology (1988) at the University of Haifa. She received her Ph.D. degree in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, at the Technion, the Israel Institute for Technology, with an emphasis on Behavioral Sciences and Management (1994). Her Ph.D. Dissertation focused on the social loafing phenomenon compared to organizational citizenship behavior from a cross-cultural perspective. The main implication of this study is that group-based motivational techniques should be adapted to the cultural values prevalent in the work context. Her research focuses on work motivation.

Research Interest

Specifically, she investigates (a) Participative leadership, (b) organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) at the individual, team, and organizational level, and (c) team work.
