Biography

Dr. Vicki Johnson-Lawrence is a social epidemiologist and community-based researcher in Flint, Michigan. Her research embraces a health equity framework, and she examines ways in which the mental and physical health of residents in vulnerable communities are simultaneously impacted by individual and collective complex stressors. Furthermore, she studies the relationships between toxic/chronic stress and health over the life course, and the related impact of community context on health. She structures her projects to incorporate trauma-informed and community-engagement principles to yield participatory action research projects structured to benefit Flint residents and local partner agencies during implementation and upon completion.
