Nelia Varelagraduated in Agrarian Sciences in 2002. After my Graduate studies I went to the University of Lleida and worked as a project leader in cooperation with Mitox, a Dutch company with Dr. Jesús Avilla. In the beginning of 2003 I moved to the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Alnarp, Sweden, and worked with Dr. Peter Witzgall in a variety of subjects. In the middle of 2005 I returned to Lleida to start my PhD with a cooperation between the IRTA of Lleida in Spain and the INRA of Versailles in France, here working with Dr. Sylvia Anton. In February of 2010 I went to the University of Zhejiang in Hangzhou, China, where I stayed for three months under the supervision of Dr. Liu Shu Shen. In June 2010 I started my first post-doc at the Innate Behavior Laboratory with Dr. Maria Luísa Vasconcelos at the Institute Gulbenkian of Science in Lisbon, Portugal. Currently I am doing my second post-doc at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal, going into the study of Drosophilidae innate behaviour together with Dr. Maria Luísa Vasconcelos.
