Biography

Dr. Karuna Shanker's research is focused on two goals. The primary research objective is to examine the phytochemicals of medicinal plants used in the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homeopathy) system of Medicines. As a first step, we wish to better characterize MAPs by means of marker chemicals. Marker chemical (bioactive/chemotaxonomic) variation within and among populations is being examined using either HPTLC or HPLC-PDA/ESLD-MS techniques along with chemometric analysis. Isolation and characterization are a major part of this activity.
