Biography

 Dr. Guo-Liang Jiang received his PhD (1994) and MSc (1986) in plant breeding and genetics from Nanjing Agricultural University, China. Dr. Jiang is an assistant professor and plant breeder at South Dakota State University. His major responsibility is to provide the leadership for oilseeds/soybean breeding and genetics program. During 2007-2009, He was a plant breeder working on melon and watermelon in the United Genetics Seeds Company in Bakersfield, CA. From 1999 to 2007, Dr. Jiang was a visiting scholar/research fellow in wheat breeding and genetics program at Michigan State University, MI. Before that, he was a professor and wheat breeder at Nanjing Agricultural University, China. He also did a six-month research on barley and barley leaf rust at Wageningen University in the Netherlands in 1997-1998. Dr. Jiang has completed many research projects, published numerous papers, released over 20 varieties and/or germplasm lines, and received several national prizes/awards.

1.Soil fertility, Cultivar development and germplasm enhancement in plants.

2.Breeding principles and methodologies.
3.Characterization and inheritance of important traits, yield and quality improvement, and breeding for pest/disease resistance.
4.QTL mapping and molecular marker-assisted breeding.
