Abstract

Standard myringoplasty involves harvesting the graft, visualization of the perforation by post aural, endaural or endomeatal approach, elevating the tympanomeatal flap and placement of the graft by onlay, underlay or interlay technique. In atraumatic myringoplasty, which is done with minimal tissue trauma, a trans-perforation myringoplasty is done using a piece of graft obtained from the other side. This prospective study was done in fifty patients with bilateral chronic otitits media mucosal type; where transperforation myringoplasty was done on less diseased ear concomitantly with standard tympanoplasty on the more diseased ear. The graft uptake was 82% with a hearing gain of 11.46db and AB gap gain of 11.6db after 6 months follow up. By this method patients with bilateral perforation are getting a chance of perforation closure in single sitting with many benefits including cost and time.
